Irish Proverb 255 - Seanfhocail Ghaeilge 255

Is é seo Seanfhocal an Lae:

Today's Proverb is:

Mura gcuireann tú san earrach ní bhainfidh tú san fhómhar.

Seo ciall an tseanfhocail:

The translation or meaning is:

If you don't sow in Spring you won't reap in Summer.

An bhfuil a mhalairt de thuairim agat maidir le ciall an tseanfhocail seo, nó ar mhaith leat an t-aistriúchán s’agatsa a roinnt linn? Déan caint ar seo thíos.

Surely, "san fhómhar" is "in autumn".

Absolutely right. It should be autumn. The real meaning of fómhar is harvest, and in Irish, it covers the three months of August (Lúnasa), September (Meán Fómhair or the middle of the harvest) and October (Deireadh Fómhair or the end of the harvest.
