Talk Irish News

  • Talk Irish Launch

Well, we had our launch in An Chultúrlann on Saturday and it went very well. Aodán Mac Póilin from Ultach said a few dea-fhocail about us, then I blethered on for a while, talking everyone through what we've got on the site, and what we've got planned.

We've had lots of press coverage too, with mention in the Sunday Business Post, the Irish Echo, the Strabane Chronicle and others. And I've been embarrassing myself with a few radio interviews (I'm not giving you links to those!).

Here are some of the stories I've found online - if you find any more (or if you blog about us) be sure to let us know.

  • www.talkirish.com wins award!

Bhain www.talkirish.com Duais Chiaráin Uí Eigeartaigh don Idirghníomhaíocht ag Féile na Meán Ceilteach. Tugann an duais seo aitheantas don nuálaíocht, don idirghníomhaíocht agus don chruthaitheacht i suíomhanna gréasáin agus in inneachar ar líne. Chuaigh sé i bhfeidhm orm go mór go raibh www.talkirish.com ar an ghearrliosta le cúig shuíomh gréasáin de chuid an BBC – agus d’fhéadfadh ceann ar bith acu sin an duais a bhaint. Caithfidh mé a admháil gur le lámh a chroitheadh leis an bhuaiteoir a d’fhreastail mé ar shearmanas na nduaiseanna.

Baineadh stangadh asam nuair a bhain www.talkirish.com agus ar ndóigh, bhí ríméad orm fosta! Luaigh na moltóirí an pobal idirnáisiúnta agus dearadh glan an tsuímh atá againn mar dhá cheann de na cúiseanna ar roghnaíodh talkirish.

Mar sin de, buíochas mór agus buíochas ó chroí le gach aon duine a bhíonn ag obair go dian i nganfhios don saol le www.talkirish.com a choinneáil ar obair, agus le gach duine sa phobal s’againne a chuidigh linn áis arbh fhiú an t-aitheantas seo a dhéanamh den suíomh. Coinnigí oraibh leis an dea-obair!

www.talkirish.com won the the Kieran Hegarty Award for Interactivity at the Celtic Media Festival. This award recognises innovation, interactivity and creativity in websites and online content. I was hugely impressed that www.talkirish.com was sharing a shortlist with 5 BBC websites - any one of which was a worthy winner. I must admit, I attended the awards ceremony to shake the hand of the winner.

I was shocked - and delighted - that www.talkirish.com was the winner. The judges singled out our international community and clean web design as two of the reasons why we were chosen.

So a great big huge heartfelt thanks to everyone behind the scenes on www.talkirish.com and everyone in our community for helping to build this into something worthy of such recognition. Keep it going!

Iontaobhas daonchairdis i mbun Suirbhé Mór na Gaeilge Tá Iontaobhas an Gaelscolaíochta ( InaG), iontaobhas atá ann le tacaíocht a thabhairt d’fhorbairt na Gaelscolaíochta, i mbun taighde ar dhearcadh an phobail i leith na Gaeilge. Dúirt An Dr Réamaí Mathers de chuid InaG , "Mar eagraíocht daonchairdis bíonn sinne ag obair i gcomhpháirt le pobail agus le daoine aonair ar fud an Domhain. Is é an ról is mó atá againn ná a bheith ag obair go dlúth le deontóirí agus daonchairde le tacaíocht a thabhairt do phobail eagsúla an Ghaelscolaíochta a bheith acu agus chuige sin tá suas do 5 mhilliún caite againn go dtí seo.

Ní féidir praghas ar chur ar luach ár dteanga féin agus tá neart eolais anois ag teacht chun cinn ar éifeacht déarfach na Gaeilge agus an tumoideachais ar pháistí agus ar an phobail ar fad.

Is é an mian atá againn mar iontaobhas ná obair s’againn a leathnú ar fud na tíre agus níos faide mar sin de, tá sé de thábhacht go bhfuil eolas domhan againn ar dhearcadh an phobail i leith na dteanga bíodh sin maith nó olc. Tá an Suirbhé Mór anois ar shuíomh idirlíne Iontaobhas an gaelscolaíochta www.iontaobhasnag.com

Philanthropic Trust Fund carrying out 'The Big Irish Language Survey' Iontaobhas na Gaelscolaíochta (InaG), The Trust Fund for Irish-medium Education have started what they hope to be the biggest ever online survey on attitudes towards the Irish language. Dr Réamaí Mathers from InaG said “As a philanthropic and charitable trust we work closely with communities and individuals throughout the World. Our main role at this stage is to work in partnership with donors and philanthropic bodies to support communities, primarily in the north of Ireland, who wish to fulfill the dream of an education for their children through Irish. The value of our native culture and bilingualism is being increasingly understood in relation a range of social, intellectual and academic benefits. The work we are involved in is exciting; it enriches lives and indeed whole communities

It is an ambition of our Trust to extend our work throughout Ireland and indeed perhaps overseas, it is therefore of paramount of importance for us to hear the opinions of people in relation to the language be they positive or negative. To this end we have devised a survey that will allow people to express their thoughts on a range of issues. The survey will run online from now until the end of July 2009.
