    Seanduine, a chara, You're very right that lots of Protestant Scots were given land during the Plantation of Ulster. Many Protestant English were also given land.     Max Weinreich once said that "A language is a dialect with an army and navy". But I think things are different now...a language is a dialect with a tv station...the more people who hear your 'dialect' the more accepted it becomes as the 'norm'. According to wikipedia, a dialect...
